‘Billie’ is a one-off lighting sculpture made to celebrate the life and art of American jazz legend Billie Holiday. It features a rusted steel structure, 15 removable spikes each individually casted and constructed, a black gilding metal light fitting and a thick cord dyed in scarlet.
Billie Holiday’s burned voice
had as many shadows as lights,
a mournful candelabra against a sleek piano,
the gardenia her signature under that ruined face.
